Made of lightweight anodized titanium, these strut clamps replace the original Lancair part number Z02E1014/Z02E1015 manufactured from stainless steel and used on 235, 320, 360, and early Legacy models with 1/4″ fork holes. This makes them stronger than the originals and nearly half the weight. (700-0103 does not fit IV, ES, or Legacy struts with 5/16″ dia. holes)
Many aircraft came without strut clamps in the kit, these were added later by service bulletins SB055-0600 & SB-067-0803. The purpose of the clamp is to help retain the flange onto the chromed strut rod. This flange is screwed into the rod, the original design relied on torque, a Loctite retaining adhesive, and a small roll pin to keep the flange from unscrewing from the strut. This proved insufficient as many strut flanges became loose, causing a sever shimmy. The clamp helps this in two ways,
- Prevents rotation (loosening) of the threaded joint.
- Helps transfer loads from the flange into the rod.
700-0103 strut clamps feature 1/4″ holes, designed to work with 235, 320, 360, and early Legacy type struts. These clamps are fully compatible with our 700-0093BT titanium tow brackets! (some grinding may be required if using original Lancair Tow Brackets TB-1-03/TB-1-05)
Refer to Lancair bulletin SB067-0803 for installation instructions, recommend a very slight application of oil to the first few threads to prevent galling of the titanium.
This product is designed to fit Lancair 235, 320, 360 and Early Legacy Models.
