This part replaces the original GM38 and GM25 (Z02E276) nose wheel axles from Lancair on the 235, 320, 360, and Legacy models with Matco wheels.  It is designed to (generally) fit with any of the original Lancair or O’Day Design forks for these models.

This axle has a few unique features which improve upon the Lancair design.  First, the steel axle is hardened to increase it strength and it is also chrome plated on the outside diameter.  This prevents wear of the axle due to shifting of the bearing and flexing of the axle.  The axle is ground to a precise diameter which is a very close fit to the bearing and axle bushings, this prevents shifting of the bearings and loss of proper bearing preload.

The axle end bushings are also improved.  These are made from a 7000 series aluminum which is stronger than the original 6061 aluminum parts.  These improve strength/durability and better prevent tow bar damage to the bushing.  The tolerances with the chromed axle and fork are also tighter, reducing the probability of the bearing shifting or loosening.

The axle assembly comes with the bolt, nut, and washers required to install.  The fork, wheel, hoop, and keepers are sold separately.  Setting the bearing preload properly can be difficult as the Matco bearings use seals which cause a lot of friction so there is an installation drawing linked below to help the installer ensure a proper fit.

We recommend to replace the bearings when installing this new axle, their part numbers are LM11900LA902A1 (Inner Bearing) & LM11910 (Outer Ring), you will need two of each.  Use only USA or Japanese Made Bearings, Timken is preferred.
